I cannot agree to Scott Stratten’s thoughts more than this. Actually we are missing one important point in social marketing and digital marketing. It doesn’t matter what type of marketing that we are dealing with, the old school laws are always the same. We are not re-inventing marketing in online or social media marketing. On the contrary we must be smart enough to follow up the old school rules and adapt them into current conditions.

April 2010 issue of INC. magazine featured an article about one of the Super Salesman ¨John Deal¨. What he says is

¨Sales people usually start out laying out goals, setting up agendas, figuring how much time they have. I try to keep things relaxed. Let’s just talk. You want to get to the point where they feel emotionally committed to a partnership. But that’s a process and you have to let them feel they are controlling it.¨

Social media marketing or online marketing is not an overnight issue. It’s basic rules are exactly the same with the traditional marketing except their platforms are different.

For a great sales people the mantra is always try to engage in real conversations with your prospect clients, let them talk, analyze their problem and provide a solution for them with an emotional commitment and be patient.
