Relevantly Speaking – September 2, 2009
This week we’re wrapping up our coverage of the eBay Partner Network. We hear from Steve Hartman, Senior Director of Internet Marketing, on how one goes about getting accepted into the program.
Plus, if you’ve ever wondered why we give so much free publicity to our competitors on this show, you’ll find your answer in this episode. Are we nuts? Maybe. Watch and find out.

The challenge with building a relationship with eBay is that they will cancel your account in a totally arbitrary fashion. We met all the criteria for an EPN account, built out dedicated pages, and brought very high quality, targeted niche traffic.
Suddenly, just when commissions started to build, we get an email saying, ‘your EPN account has been canceled for association with a know banned website’
What? We work with the top technology companies in the US. No explanation. to replies to emails, nothing. We are not the only ones to have experienced this. there are dozens of horror stories out there about EPN accounts being canceled out of hand with no explanation.
My advice to Steve Hartman is, if you are going to act in this manner, at least teach your support staff how to properly respond to emails
My advice to Affiliates looking to join EPN, don’t bet the farm on it lasting
