Relevantly Speaking – August 26, 2009

This week we’re talking about eBay Partner Network’s new Quality Click Pricing. We even wrote about it. Is it a revolutionary step forward or a disaster waiting to happen? We’d love your feedback.

We’re also checking in with the Performance Marketing Alliance’s Rebecca Madigan to talk about offline performance marketing and why our industry needs to grow up.

  1. Scott,

    Good video post. Nice!

I find Rebecca to be quit brilliant in this interview, though I disagree with her on a few minor points.

Im not too certain about all this passing the milk glass around transpairency stuff. Companies need too maintain a cartain amount of privacy and revenue ownership in what they innovate.
The advertiser’s in tier 1 that I speak with basically have this same montra.

As for growing up, personally some my best innovations in marketing have actually come to me while riding my unicycle and playing heavy metal guitar” seriously”. I’m in my mid 40′s and will never grow up. Its also that same for the innovations of some of our industry associates, most of our industries most awesome, inspiring innovations have evolved while messin around in almost child like ideas and experiments. I can name about 5,000 of those marketing innovations, but I won’t bore you.

I believe that branding advertisers wanting to come into the performance marketing space should spend a great deal of time weeding out who to work with and who not to work with on the performance side. Which in my experiance seems to be true with how most tier 1 advertisers approach performance marketing. Caution is always best..

Its like any industry really’ there is the good and the bad. If everyone was good at this business it would be like a world of genius’s how boring!!

The positve here for great marketers out there in TV land, is that an advertiser who has spoken to enough idiots quickly gains the knowledge of who is worth hiring and who is not.. I love being the last call… :)

    Cheers – This blog rocks!!!
