Relevantly Speaking – April 8, 2009

This week we’re taking a close look at the 2008 IAB report on internet advertising revenue. A cursory look tells us that internet ad revenue is up 10.6% from 2007. The report also finds that 57% of all internet revenue comes from performance-based pricing. Good news, indeed, for our industry.

This week we’re starting a contest. Over the next three weeks we’ll be giving away six copies of James Connor’s new book called “The Perfection of Marketing.” All you have to do to win a hardcover copy is leave a comment in the shownotes. Make sure to include a valid email address (not shown to the public) so we can track you down if you win.

Finally, we’ve got a great offer to tell you about this week. Stemulite is offer #2113 on the Advaliant Platform. It’s an Advaliant exclusive that has a $17.00 payout and is converting at 4-7%. With endorsements from NFL players like Ellis Wyms, Cato June and Simeon Rice – you know this is the real deal.

  3. no opening hand wave? really interesting points made by the buddhist. i’d love a copy of that book, and i’d also love to disappear in the desert for a few years. think i’d need the NFL package and Showtime though.

  4. No opening wave – your critique in Austin messed with my head. Now I have to fight to keep my hands by my side during the opening. :)

Yes, James makes some really interesting points.

  7. “You have to be a good marketer when times are good. But, you have to be a great marketer when times are tough.”

In these times, these words have never rung truer. Great video and I look forward to reading the book regardless if I win a free copy.

Having to slow down marketing options during a recession is not a choice but needed to avoid other budget cuts by many companies.

Companies always tend to chop the marketing budget pretty quick because they don’t know exactly how they benefit from there marketing so they don’t mind loosing it as much as other departments. That’s the great thing about tracking performance based marketing, you know exactly what you are paying for and will realize that every dollar spent is bringing in more and thus certainly shouldn’t be cut.

The book sounds to be useful. I have not got the one here in Lithuania, but hope it will not take too long to have a chance to read it.

  19. Like Connor says, “In our lives we are likely to see a recession five or six times”. I think only a fool would stop marketing in down times. Just a matter of how crafty and lean you get. Sign me up for a book please.
